Try the 1 ballon in the other ballon. The inner with coke, with the outer with metos. when you pop the inner, it should fill the outer where the metos are.

I can't stand these projects, but if you MUST do this, put the mentos in a balloon, put the balloon in the resin. Use an actual syringe filled with diet coke and when the time comes, poke the hole and inject the diet coke into the balloon. You're welcome, lol.

probably epoxy the menthos to the side wall of the container. or go back to the menthos covered balloon but attach it higher to the side wall.

Maybe you need an upside down cup of air with the mentos glued to the top. Then when the coke pops it fills the upside down cup and the reaction pushes all the air out.

For these types of experiments you should use Nitinol shape memory metals to pop the balloons inside the resin - when it gets hot it returns to it's normal shape so it can be coiled up and pointed at the balloon to pop it when it gets to a certain temp range.

The mentos aren’t liquid so poking the hole didn’t do anything. The coke moves but it’s not directed into the mentos. Not sure how to do it but I’m stoked to see the whole thing.

I would just glue the diet coke balloon to the bottom of the cup... pour the hot resin, and then push one or two mentos (without balloon) down the cup and pop the diet coke balloon

Coat the Mentos in wax, the heat from the resin will melt it and they will mix? Get some sort of gel pill like thing that will slow dissolve over time so that you can put them both in the same balloon and the Coke just melts the gel which then starts the reaction Put the Coke in some sort of plastic bag that will melt with the heat of the resin and mix with the mentos.

The balloon(s) always act as a barrier between the mentos and the diet coke. I think you need a different method that doesn't have something between them. Something like sitting the mentos on top of a playing card that you can slide out so they FALL into the coke. Another thing to consider would be crushing the mentos into a powder. Might be more you could do with it in that form

The bubbles are a physical reaction, not chemical. It only bubbles due to the carbonation getting caught in the microscopic texture on the mentos, so filling that texture with latex and resin negates the process 😔

have you tried making a two resin blanks, witha hole bored in the both, stick mentos to the bottowm of one and poar coke in the other. attacherd the mentos blank on top. seal it. that shake.?? good vidoe as alwasy.

Hi Ben sorry it didn't work but you gave a good old try. Could you glue the sweets on the outside at end of a balloon 🎈 place that on top of the coke balloon with air 🎈 at the end of the cup. Pour your resin when it gets to that point of being hard on the top burst the coke balloon and it will rise up to sweets. By keeping the sweets Stationery on the top the coke can go up to the top to meet the sweets. I don't know if it will work but with all of your coke flew up and sweets fell down. So you out wit 🤔 the sweets and keep them up up. But if you have better way of doing it feel free. I'm so sorry for the long yappy way of explaining my thinking. It could be a flop too. idk if frozen coke has the same effect when it melts but if it does you can put a frozen cube of coke in a balloon with a mento

What about putting a bottle of Diet Coke in resin but leaving the top untouched. Remove the cap from the soda. Put a balloon with mentos on the top of the soda bottle (with the mentos covering where the soda top is). Blow up the balloon slightly. Add resin to cover then when ready pop the balloon and see if the mentos fall in the bottle and cause the mentos blowup? Or is that me overthinking?

Hey Ben, what about putting mentos in a ballon with enough air, and instead of a poker, puncture the cup with a syringe loaded with diet coke?

Not sure if it would work but this is a thought the double layer Ballon has merit in the containing the coke to get the reaction. But since the coke flow up to the top of the resin if you have a Balloon with coke and maybe a clear half dome over top of the coke balloon. Just not sure how to create the air pocket in the half dome. But the mentos could be glued in the half dome . Not sure but it's an idea. You could possibly research. Goo luck.

What about casting two hollowed halves put the Diet Coke in the bottom, put a thin layer of paper and then glue the top on with the Mentos after it hardens flip it over when the Diet Coke soaks through the paper it will hit the Mentos. That will also allow it to be fully cured before combining them.

Put the mentos in a small cup, like in the second experiment, glue the balloon full of Diet Coke on it, glue the small cup to the bottom. Then, when the resin is red hot, pour it in, then poke it, like the third one

The balloons are too thick. You need to use "something" that is usually made from Latex. If you get what I mean.

Hey Ben. I'm no Chemist, however, did you know that carbonated drinks lose their 'fizz' when warm/get hot. It's the 'carbonated bubbles' that cause a reaction on the mentos. If the coke is warmed by the resin then it loses it's bubbles. Thus no reaction. You could be on a hiding to nothing with this experiement. Nice try though!

What would happen if you were able to combine the two in resin that is solid? Like make two connected resin chambers then combine the two.

put mentos in balloon, tuck 2nd balloon inside of it, fill that balloon with coke. funnel may help fill balloon with coke.

Greetings from New England about an hour north of Boston! How much diffraction/diffusion etc is the resin likely to do to a beam of light? Run another setup, let it cure to your liking (i'd like to see one totally cured if this method works), now pop the balloon with a magnifying glass and a little bit of sunshine. Good luck with the exposure! Sun behind the camera I imagine would work best. Also, a styropyro level of laser might do it! Setups from this video: #1 I believe would work well. #2 might work with some time and a steady hand. How about down through the side of the cup to pop the balloon? This would expose the candy before the cola is released. #3 I believe the virus would stay sealed at the epoxy holding the candy to the balloon. Is there anything that will tolerate the heat of the epoxy but can be melted with the magnifier and sun? Now that I think of it, a section of the cup, possibly with an unmolested a hole, would work. I'm hoping to see another video trying these or other ideas since it is quite the puzzle to solve. Now, what about a balloon the next size up, put in the mentos and tie it off. Now pull the balloon back over itself so the candy is inside and now add the cola. Granted it will be a little harder to handle, but this should be easier to hit your target. I gave a thought to just twisting the balloon to keep the candy in, but that might not go so well. Alternatively, use the same balloon for both, but tie the candy in first and leave it on the outside and pop it first. I believe the knot would duck into either chamber if the resin is totally cured. What if you freeze a mentos in an ice cube, and put it into the balloon with the coke?

No matter what method you use, you NEED those mentos to be untouched by the resin, and for nothing to interfere with the combination of mentos and coke - the cavitation of the mentos' surface and the unique balance of variables is very particular, and resin being involved will contaminate the chemical reaction. I've seen a lot of interesting suggestions - but putting the mentos inside of a balloon isn't going to work out. The rubber will simply contract and shrink wrap the mentos. You can't just "pop" a solid coin out of a pinhole. Try doing it underwater, or even in the open air - unless the balloon is bigger, with it's surface under higher tension, you're not going to get a clean release of solids. Considering scaling up this experiment is more dangerous to do, I actually think that the coke being inside another balloon that's blown up to extra taut surface tension (bigger) surrounding the coke balloon might technically work better? Others have suggested a more structured chamber method, which I think would garner more success, with barriers such as wax that might melt naturally from the resin's heat as a barrier or plug - but might get less of chaotic reaction as the reaction would then be a little more contained. Have you tested to see if the reaction still works if you were to try and powder the mentos? If it does, we might have more options that way.

I am completely surprised that one of those didn't work, but you can't enjoy a great success without a little failure.

Take your balloon filled with diet Coke with a big enough hollow tube that the mentos can fall into. Set your balloon into the cup with tube inside the balloon, add your resin and then add your mentos and as soon as you do pull your tube out. I hope that worx.

My take away is there just isn't enough air in the balloons to get them to pop out of the way like you need. I feel like that last one should have worked if there was enough air to make the balloons really explode. The other thing is that your heated poker is great for easing into the side of the cup, but it's probably doing the same thing to the balloon too. Really need a way to pop the balloon as explosively as possible. Edit to add: what if you place a thumbtack into the hot resin near the balloon and then use the poker to push that into the balloon Great episode, really enjoyed it and my daughter loved watching it with me

Ben, i have some thoughts. Try gluing the cup to the ballon but dont glue it completely. Leave gaps so the baloon might split up into the cup. Or, if you can coat the mentos in something that disolves like celulose or gelatin then you might be able to drop the mentos in the coke long before you need to. You can also try and scale it up so you can the ballons to stretch more and therefore split better. You could try dropping the mentos in on top of the balloon and since the coke raises so fast maybe it will hi t the mentos.
